for the Middleburg Humane Foundation
The Founder of the Middleburg Humane Foundation (MHF),
Hilleary Bogley, started the Foundation about 10 years ago.
She is an amazing person who is licensed by the state of
Virginia as an animal cruelty investigator. Hilleary has
the most unusual combination of strength and compassion
-- she has to see and deal with some of the saddest (and
most infuriating) situations imaginable, yet remain strong
and determined. She has seen things done to animals that
would make you physically sick -- and she keeps on going.
Outside of her investigative role, she is a superb and highly
trained vet tech and, of course, she runs the shelter. She
has a great sense of humor and always makes time to pick
up any creature in need of help. It is not unusual for Hilleary
to go to the local slaughter auctions (for horses, donkeys,
goats, cows) and buy up many animals. We can't adequately
describe all she does and all that the shelter provides
(plus they do the annual fund raiser in June and hold a
bake sale in December at the Middleburg parade). We don't
know when she or her staff find time to sleep ... and of
course, they actively try to place their rescues in loving
